Myth #1

A golf shank is caused by a closed club face

Watch how one of the games greatest teachers incorrectly describes the process of the shank.

Now, watch this super slow motion of an actual shank. You’ll see the ball contacts the hosel when the club is open-to-square, then closes because of the force of impact.

Myth #2

A golf shank is a mental issue.

There's no doubt that shanks can affect your menatal game, and the fear of them can cause rigidity and tension in the swing. But there's no evidence that it's "just between your ears". This is a bio-mechanical issue, and it can be identified and corrected.

Myth #3

Golf shanks come out of nowhere.

The difference between hitting the ball just off the sweet spot and a shank is measured in increments as small as a quarter of an inch. It is far more likely that a shanker has been hitting the ball on the inside of the clubface for weeks.
