Are there different kinds of shanks?

Any action that delivers the hosel across the target line at impact can cause a shank, but there’s no clear evidence that chipping or pitching shanks have a unique cause. In other words, this is just a mini-version of whatever swing error you’re making in your full-swing.

As someone who struggles specifically with shanks in the short game, I understand you may be skeptical. How can you hit drives and long irons well, and then see your round ruined by continuous shanks on pitches and chips? One factor is we often have a short game swing that relies on numerous compensations (that word again).
